The Howard Payne University softball team broke the school record for hits with 21 hits in game one of the Lady Jackets double-header sweep of the University of Dallas 15-10 and 13-7 Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

Game One
The Lady Jackets set a school record for hits in a game with 21. The previous HPU record was set in 2007 versus Sul Ross State with 19.

Tied 10-10 going into the top of the seventh, the Lady Jackets used a five-run seventh to put the game out of reach in a 15-10 HPU victory.

Alexia Perkkio led HPU at the plate going 4-for-5 at the plate with 1 RBI. Makayla Wesley, Simonne Sanders, Amber Williams, and Zoie Garcia each finished with three hits. Madison Forrester and Tori Muro added two hits each.

Heather Wineman had the no decision in the start going 2.1 innings striking out one. Sydney West threw one-third of an inning allowing four hits. Bree Cason threw the final 4.1 innings recording the win. She allowed just one run on two hits and struckout two.

Game Two
Down 6-2 going into the fourth, the Lady Jackets recorded four consecutive multi-run innings to finish out the game in the HPU 13-7 final.

HPU’s McKeanne Saenz tied the school record for runs scored in a game with five, tying Kate McLaughlin who had five versus Sul Ross State in 2009.

Saenz was also 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI. Five other Lady Jackets recorded two hits in game two.

Maddison Cason got the complete game win for HPU allowing six runs (3 earned) on 10 hits.

Howard Payne is now 3-3 overall and UDallas stands at 1-7 on the year. The Lady Jackets will be at home this weekend versus the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a three-game conference opening series. It will be a double-header on Friday at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm, and a single on Saturday starting at 12:00 noon.
