36 Brown County student-athletes selected for Big Country FCA All-Star Festival

The Big Country Fellowship of Christian Athletes revealed its 2023 All-Star Festival participants in Abilene Sunday, as seven sports will be played over eight games from June 4-10, with Brownwood, Abilene, San Angelo, and Eastland serving as host cities.

A total of 36 Brown County athletes have been selected to take part in the weeklong event.

  • Girls Golf – Brownwood’s Haylie Martindale
  • Softball – Early’s Madison Torrez and Trinity Torrez
  • Baseball – Brownwood’s Taylor Bessent, Campbell Gilmore and Case Markham; Early’s Cayden Laird and Caleb McCullough; Bangs’ Brayden Fields
  • Girls Basketball – Brownwood’s Mady Pyle; Early’s Caroline Welker; Bangs’ Rylie Guerrero
  • Boys Basketball – Brownwood’s Luke Gray and Tristan Salinas; Early’s John Hill and Kaleb Hoffman; May’s Luke McKenzie
  • Volleyball – Brownwood’s Ibis Alvarado and Kassidy Wooten; Zephyr’s Halle Kern
  • Football – Brownwood’s Brayden Daub, Slayde Espinoza, and Chance Jones; Early’s Jeremy Brown, Chris Fernandez and Jaxyn Price; Bangs’ Keygan Pitts, Guy Powell and Nate Stoffer; May’s Kenyon Kross
  • Brownwood Cheer – Brownwood’s Matilyn DeLeon; Early’s Averey Horton and Kalynn Prince; Bangs’ Halley Miller; May’s Kourtney Peacock; Zephyr’s Abigail Moody

On Saturday, June 10, Brownwood will be the site of the 15th annual All-Star girls basketball games and the 11th annual All-Star boys basketball game.

The event kicks off Sunday June 4 and Tuesday, June 6 with the All-Star golf tournament at Kingdom Course at Solid Rock Camp in Eastland.

On Friday, June 9, the 10th annual All-Star baseball and softball games will be held in San Angelo.

Also on Saturday, June 10, the 11th annual All-Star volleyball game will take place in Abilene, along with the 24th annual Myrle Greathouse All-Star Football Classic.

Representing Brown County among the 43 coaches selected to guide the athletes in their final competitions are Early’s Daniel Price, who will assist the Red Football Team; Brownwood’s Ali Eaton, who will assist the South Volleyball Team; Early’s Eric Davis, who will assist the South Boys Basketball Team; Bangs’ Chesney Neeley, who will assist the South Girls Basketball Team; Brownwood’s Brian Harris, who will assist the South Baseball Team; and Early’s Kristin Wade, who will help out with cheerleaders in Brownwood for the basketball contests.
