Two Brownwood High School students were honored Thursday afternoon with the Youth of Inspiration Award for October at Bruner Toyota.  They were joined by family, Brownwood High School Principal Bill Faircloth and counselor Fay Parks, Bruner Toyota President Greg Bruner and Bruner Auto Group General Manager Jim Stanley.

October recipients included Sharon Berger and Cutter Brewer, both seniors at Brownwood High School.

Sharon Berger’s father passed away during her freshman year.  She is involved with Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) and is now their president.  She has volunteered over 100 hours with Brownwood Regional Medical Center and nursing homes throughout the community.  She is a member of the Choices mentoring program, Crew, National Honor Society and has maintained a 3.67 GPA while taking AP and dual credit classes.  She has been a member of the Lionettes drill team for the past three years and during her senior year, she has worked 30 hours outside of school each week.  Sharon plans to attend Texas State University in the fall of 2014.

Cutter Brewer shared the love of the outdoors with his father, who also passed away very unexpectedly this past spring.  The two of them shared a love of baseball, golf, hunting and fishing.  This fall, Cutter plans to continue playing golf competitively and he participates in hunting and fishing as well as the agriculture department at Brownwood High School.  He plans to attend Tarleton State University and major in wildlife management and hopes to become a game warden.  By continuing the activities that he shared with his father, he will keep that close connection that they shared.

Each month the dealership recognizes one young man and one young lady from area high schools.  These students are selected for overcoming significant life circumstances and having the courage, discipline and stamina to fight past those obstacles to make impressive achievements in school.  Such accomplishments may include family economic hardship, loss of a home due to disaster, personal or family illness or loss of key family members.  Each student must be in good standing with his/her high school and be an exemplary citizen.  Individual campus counselors recommend their school’s recipients for the Youth of Inspiration Award.

“Our schools are blessed with students who use their natural talents to realize great goals,” said Greg Bruner.  “This program honors those who have survived intense personal struggles to put their lives back together and perform admirably in the classroom, with their classmates and in the community.”

Bruner Toyota recognizes two students each month during the school year.  These monthly honorees and his/her faculty mentor will receive a certificate and will be invited to a dinner in mid-May to recognize each of the 20 honorees from participating high schools.  At this event, Bruner Toyota will select one young man and one young woman who will each receive a $500 scholarship.  The school of each selected student will also receive a $500 scholarship donation from Bruner Toyota for a total of $2,000 presented to individuals and area schools.
