Kenneth David “Ken” Wesson went to be with his Lord on January 7th, 2023, at the age of 89. He loved his Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church of Brownwood for 55 years.

Kenneth was born in Goldthwaite, Mills County, Texas and was not away from it for very long. He grew up in the country and loved living there. He showed calves in high school and when he went to college at Texas A&M, he continued in showing lambs. After graduation from Texas A&M, he entered the Army as a 2nd. Lieutenant and served at Fort Benning, Georgia where he met his wife, Elizabeth Ann Fondren Wesson. He finished his tour of duty in South Korea as a  1st Lieutenant.

Kenneth went to work for Swift & Company as a salesman and on April 25,1959, married Elizabeth Fondren of Columbus, Georgia. Shortly after this, he found a place in the country out of Mt. Pleasant, Texas to live. In 1967 he went to work for Allied Chemical Corp and moved to Brownwood and soon moved out to the country again where he pursued his love of raising cattle and goats. He retired from Allied Chemical and started Big Rig Fertilizer and operated it for about 15 years. Then he and Liz started the first Assisted Living facility in Brown County, Rolling Oaks Personal Care in Early, Texas. He sold Rolling Oaks in 2003 and pursued other interests.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Fondren Wesson of Mullin; daughters, Suzanne Dowdy and Melanie Wesson of Brownwood and Karen Francis of Coldspring, Texas; grandchildren, Ryan Dowdy of Coppell, Texas and Taylor Dowdy of Bradenton, Florida; sister, Wanda Westlake of Waxahachie, and many nieces and nephews. He loved visiting with his brothers and sisters and held a reunion each year for his relatives at his cabin at Lake Brownwood and other places. He loved all the Wessons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Culberson Craig and Lillie Mae Goodwin Wesson; sisters, Ovella Knight and Barbara Jernigan and brothers, Jefferson Craig Wesson and James W. Wesson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Brownwood. Burial will follow at 1:30pm in the Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

Condolences, memories, and tributes can be offered to the Wesson family online at heartlandfuneralhome.com
