Stephen Scott Morelock passed away on September 9, 2013, in Austin, Texas, surrounded by his family. Steve was born to Roy Farmer Morelock and Ila Bettis Morelock on June 20, 1938 in Galveston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Martha Thorlin, and a brother, Roy Samuel Morelock.

Steve spent most of his adult life in Brownwood, Texas, but he and his family had lived in Austin for the past 23 years. He will be remembered best for the love he had for his family and friends, his country, the Texas Longhorns, and God. He was a family man first and a trusted friend who was always there when there was a need. Steve had a unique ability to serve, and people from all walks of life leaned on him for strength, advice and assistance.

He also believed in community service and was an active participant all his life. Steve served in the U.S. military and later as president of the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce, treasurer for the Salvation Army, president of the Rotary Club and Brownwood Jaycees, and he chaired the March of Dimes and Easter Seals many times. He was selected Outstanding Young Man of Brownwood for his service to the community. While in Austin, he delivered Meals on Wheels during his lunch hour every week.
For many years, Steve owned and operated the Morelock Funeral Home. Prior to that, he was a loan officer and cashier at Citizens National Bank, and he had been employed at the Texas Workforce Commission for more than two decades.

After Steve and Paula sold Morelock Funeral Home, they moved to Austin in 1990 and have remained there, but they never lost touch with their Brownwood friends. Steve was quick to tell new friends about his deep roots in Brown County, Texas.

Steve took great pride and joy in his children and grandchildren. He loved each of them with all his heart. His pride was obvious when he explained to everyone that both grandsons were named after him – Jack Stephen and Grant Stephen.

He is survived by his brother John Bettis Morelock; wife of 45 years, Paula Hoyle; three children, Skipper, Scott and Mariann; and grandsons, Jack and Grant as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation is scheduled for 6:00–8:00 pm on Wednesday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home and services will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at Davis-Morris followed by interment at Greenleaf Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Howard Payne University or the Salvation Army.
