HOOPS ROUNDUP: Early, May, Brookesmith boys and girls teams sweep competition

CLYDE – The Early Longhorns improved to 2-1 on the season Tuesday with a 61-56 road victory over Clyde.

Andrew Caten led the Longhorns with 18 points followed by John Hill and Rohyn Price with nine apiece and Colten Allen with eight points.

The Longhorns will compete in the Dublin tournament Thursday through Saturday.

Early Lady Horns 36, Sweetwater Lady Mustangs 30

EARLY – The Early Lady Horns snapped a four-game skid with a 36-30 win over Class 4A Sweetwater Tuesday night.

The Lady Horns (3-5) led 8-3 after one quarter, 16-14 at halftime, and 29-25 through three frames.

Madison Torrez led Early with 13 points trailed by 10 from Caroline Welker, five from Dakota Barksdale, four from Averey Horton, and two each from Trinity Torrez and Jenna Hataway.

The Lady Horns will compete in the Dublin tournament Thursday through Saturday.

May Tigers 48, Sidney Eagles 32

MAY – The May Tigers moved to 2-1 on the season with a 48-32 home victory over Sidney Tuesday night.

May led 10-9 after one quarter, 21-15 at halftime, and 35-24 through three periods.

No other information was available.

The Tigers will compete in the Gorman tournament Thursday through Saturday.

May Lady Tigers 74, Sidney Lady Eagles 9

MAY – The May Lady Tigers improved their season mark to 3-4 with a 74-9 home thrashing of Sidney Tuesday night.

The Lady Tigers led 25-0 after one quarter, 38-3 at halftime, and 52-6 through three periods.

Leading the charge for May were Jordyn Gerhardt with 19 points and Mia Musick with 10.

The Lady Tigers will compete in the Gorman tournament Thursday through Saturday.

Brookesmith Mustangs 52, Abilene TLCA Eagles 23

BROOKESMITH – The Brookesmith Mustangs evened their season record at 3-3 with 52-23 home victory over Abilene TLCA Tuesday night.

Brookesmith led 14-5 after one quarter, 28-8 at halftime, and 42-16 through three periods.

Trey Toft paced Brookesmith with 19 points followed by Adyn Ribble with nine, Vegas Gilliam and Brennan Mendieta with eight apiece, Landon Slayton with six, and Caleb Bradley with two points.

The Mustangs will compete in the Moran tournament Thursday through Saturday.

No. 12 Brookesmith Lady Mustangs 47, Abilene TLCA Lady Eagles 19

BROOKESMITH – The Texas Girls Coaches Association Class A No. 12 Brookesmith Lady Mustangs won for the eighth time in nine outings Tuesday night, knocking off Abilene TLCA, 47-19.

Brookesmith (8-1) led 12-4 after one quarter, 28-9 at halftime, and 41-15 through three quarters.

Bailey Mendieta scored 15 points to spark the Lady Mustangs followed by 11 from Nevaeh Neith, nine from Mya Richards, four each from Harley Gilliam and Sharon Beth Bradley, and two apiece from Ava Hathcock and Elida Uvalle.

The Mustangs will compete in the Moran tournament Thursday through Saturday.

Cisco Lady Loboes 71, Bangs Lady Dragons 18

CISCO – The Bangs Lady Dragons slipped to 5-6 on the season Tuesday with a 71-18 loss at the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 2A No. 14 Cisco Lady Loboes.

Bangs trailed 26-2 after one quarter, 51-5 at halftime, and 61-6 heading into the fourth quarter.

Kasey Solis scored eight points for Bangs followed by Raylee Hutchins and Neeley Bradley with three each, and Jadyn Miller and Jaylee Valdez with two points apiece.

The Lady Dragons will compete in the Gorman tournament Thursday through Saturday.
