BURLESON – A season that wasn’t expected to result in a postseason berth concluded in the second round of the playoffs Friday night, as the Bangs Dragons were upended by the Riesel Indians, 38-14, in Class 2A Division I Region II area playoff action.

Bangs (7-5), the third seed out of District 5, jumped out to a 48-0 lead in last week’s 61-21 bi-district victory over Nocona, but yielded the first 35 points to Riesel (7-5) Friday night.

The Dragons were limited to 202 yards of total offense, with 194 coming on the ground.

Guy Powell rushed for 146 yards on 29 carries and finished his senior campaign with 2,040 yards and 27 touchdowns on the ground.

Kenny Cole added 41 yards and a touchdown on the ground, while completing 2- of 6 passes for 8 yards with a touchdown to Guy Funk, and an interception.

Skylar Minshew tacked on 7 yards on his lone carry of the night.

Defensive standouts for Bangs included Powell with 17 tackles, Keygan Pitts with 11, Nate Stoffer and Ethan Ethridge with 10 apiece, Hunter Newton with four, Brayden Fields and Isaiah Serrato with two each, and Funk, Weston Jundt, Sergio Lopez and Aidan Jones with one tackle apiece.

Riesel advances to face Crawford (12-0) – a 34-13 winner over Coleman (9-3) Friday night – in the Region II semifinals next weekend.
