scott2James Erwin Scott, age 77, of Brownwood went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 10, 2013 with his family by his side.

Please bring you instruments for jam session visitation at Blaylock Funeral Home between 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Followed will be a rejoicing of my life on Wednesday 8/14/2013 at 5 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel.  The service will include a rejoicing of life, military, and masonic ceremonies, so please allow time.  Interment will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery at sunset.

My body dies but my spirit lives on through grace and faith in Jesus Christ and each of you who knew me.  I’ve served my country, family, community, students, and friends to the best of my ability and proudly.  I spent my last days walking closer with my Lord.

As a retired teacher, I have one more lesson for you.  If I told you that you would extend your life by completing one simple exam, would you do it?  I sure wish I had done it a lot sooner, but then you wouldn’t be learning from my mistake.  I died from a preventable and treatable disease, colorectal cancer. Please consider taking the time to think of yourself and those you might leave behind prematurely and have yourself checked.  If I had my colonoscopy sooner, I would still be playing music for your listening pleasure.

I want to thank my physicians and friends Chris Stephens, Allan Cass, Sammy Horton, Timothy Bumann and their staff, who were relentless in their efforts to make my health their primary concern and my final days honored by quality of time and a dignified death.  I want to thank the health care professionals at Brownwood Regional Medical Center and all departments and services for their support to my wife, Cynthia, allowing her to be with me in my last days.  First Aide Agency and Girling Lighthouse Hospice and their staff for meeting our specific needs for at home care.

I want to give thanks and praise to the love of my life, my wife, Cynthia.  I was greatly loved by my precious daughter Shannon Adams and husband James, their children Bryan and daughter, Tatum; Tyler, and Colby; my brother T.D. Scott and his wife June; my  sister-in-laws Linda Dennis, Melissa Bingham and her husband Garlan; Bodie and Lynn Dykes and their son Cody, wife Jennifer and children Levi, Eli, Ivy and Joy;  nieces Toni Ballard and her husband Brady and children Jarron and Sutton; Melinda Griffith; Sandy Nigh, husband John and daughter Lindsay; Sheryl Thompson, husband Robbie and  children, Jordan and Peyton; brother-in-law Robert N. Dennis and his wife Suzanne; nephew Robert L. Dennis and his wife Abby; and remembrance to my father-in-law Robert E. Dennis and his wife June.  I’ve been blessed by my Shiloh Bible Christian family and numerous family and friends who went above and beyond to meet my spiritual needs.

I follow in the footsteps of my mother and father, Wesley C. and Annie Brunett, and my only son, James Gregory Scott.

Please keep my memory alive by contributing to the Home for Aged Masons-Arlington, Texas, Shiloh Bible Church, or Brownwood Regional Medical Center’s Auxillian Student funding program.

Don’t worry about me.  At sunset it’s just now approaching the best part of the day.

Online condolences are welcomed at www.blaylockfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home.
