ABILENE – The Brownwood Lady Lions golf team finished third as a team, while the Lions placed seventh, at the two-day, 36-hole Diamondback Invitational golf tournament, which concluded Tuesday.

Among a field of larger schools, the Lady Lions posted a 749 team score, following rounds of 372 and 377, which trailed only Trinity Christian Academy (631) and J.J. Pearce High School (722).

The Lady Lions defeated District 6-4A rivals Glen Rose and Stephenville at the event by 16 and 157 strokes, respectively.

On the boys side, the Lions fired rounds of 322 and 321 for a 643 team score, which left them behind Hebron (604), Flower Mound (612), Fort Worth All Saints (615), Bridgeport (619), Abilene Wylie (620) and Abilene High (642).

Like the girls, the Lions were the highest-placing District 6-4A team in the field as they outdistanced Stephenville by 33 strokes, Glen Rose by 108, and Mineral Wells by 122 shots.

Leading the charge for the Lady Lions were River Jones (91-92-183), Haylie Martindale (88-96=184), Tristyn Garcia (95-90=185), and London England (98-99=197). Riley Morton competed in just one round and carded a 105.

The Lions’ effort was sparked by Hudson Reagan (71-78=149), Sir Bubba Jones (81-77=158), Cobe Walker (82-85=167), Caleb Modawell (88-81=169), and Peyton Sharp (89-88=177).

Three Brownwood boys competed as medalists as Will Stewardson posted a 190 with rounds of 98 and 92, while Luke Gray (84) and Andrew Boren (118) took part in just one round.
