dossFuneral services for Rhetta Jo Doss, 73, of Zephyr, formerly of Midland will be held at 10 am on Saturday, June 29, at the First Baptist Church in Zephyr with Brother Brian Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in Zephyr Cemetery under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home.

She passed on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center .

Rhetta Jo Gunter was born on August 5, 1939, in Midland Texas , a daughter of Herman and Irene Gunter. She was raised and attended school in Midland and was also voted Rodeo Sweetheart at Midland High School. On September 22, 1978 Jo and Kenneth were married in Stephenville , Texas . She had worked as a grocery checker at JRB’s and Gibson’s. The thing that meant the most to her was her family. Especially her grandchildren! Jo loved playing 42, Skip Bo and was an avid Scrabble player. She also loved telling her Elvis story – “He kissed me right here.” She had lived in Zephyr since 1978 and was a Baptist.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Kenneth Doss of Zephyr; children, Billy Whaley, Jr., and wife Sue, of Eastland, Jeffrey Joe Whaley and wife Terry, of Edmond OK, Jolyn Knight and husband Jerry, of Early, Tim Doss and wife Pam, of Tyler, Monte Doss and wife Tammy, of Blanket, Kyle Doss and wife Debby, of Lindale and Nita O’Neal and husband Jerry, of Brownwood; her brother, Herman Gunter, Jr. of Midland; and sisters, Linda Hamil of Brownwood and Connie Snowden of San Antonio. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews as well as an abundance of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; two brothers and one nephew.
