The Bangs Independent School District’s board of trustees witnessed a presentation Monday night by two FCCLA students who are headed to nationals in July. Amelia Hubbard and Megan Jackson, who earned a second place finish at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference are entered in the food innovations category.

The final product which will be entered into the national competition is their “AM & M’s Gluten Free Choco-Berry Cake”, a chocolate cupcake with a strawberry filling made from fresh strawberries and chocolate ganache with a swirl on top.  Competition guidelines called for safety precautions to be adhered to, as well as devising a marketing strategy.

Hubbard and Jackson will present their project July 8 for judging.

In other business:

• Dennis Sanchez was sworn in to serve another term on the board

• The board heard from Superintendent Bill Foster who informed members that the refinishing of the gymnasium floor is set to begin in early July and that work is continuing on the B.J. Rankin Indoor Facility. Foster also reported that due to the recent death of Stanley Walker Jr., another representative will be visiting with district officials to discuss student insurance.

• The board approved an engagement letter with Burl Lowery and Associates to act as the district’s auditor for the 2013-2014 school year.

The Bangs ISD board of trustees meets the third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the administration building, located at 200 E. Hall
