Brookesmith ISD issued the following press release Thursday morning:

Brookesmith ISD started the new school year with many exciting changes! The Texas Education Agency released the 2022 school ratings; the district received a grant for three new school buses; and, the cafeteria received a grant to enhance food services and nutrition.

The Texas Education Agency awarded Brookesmith ISD an overall score of 91 and an Accountability Rating Summary of A. The district has shown steady growth in recent years thanks to the leadership of the board, administration and diligent, focused efforts of teachers.

The district was recently awarded a $193,725 grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to help in the purchase of three new school buses. They will come fully equipped with heating, air-conditioning and interior cameras. The total package cost is $379,730. The buses are on order and delivery is expected in February 2023.

Brookesmith ISD received a $30,000 grant from No Kid Hungry. Six school districts across the state were selected to participate in the year-long program. The program was designed to support peer-to-peer collaboration and innovation around the unique challenges and opportunities associated with feeding students in rural school districts. Brookesmith Food Services Director Alline Bolt is using the grant to purchase a new air-fryer, institute an elementary mid-afternoon snack program and initiate a weekend food program. The air-fryer will enable the cafeteria to cook food quicker, crispier and with a more appealing appearance.
