ACSRelay4LifeHave you had a family member diagnosed with cancer?  What about a co-worker, friend, neighbor, teacher, or church member?  Almost everyone you know has been or will be touched by cancer at some point during their lifetimes.

Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the American Cancer Society great strides have been made in the fight against cancer.  The ACS has been on the forefront in the battle against cancer for many years.  They are involved in all aspects of the war on cancer from research, to drug development, to finding new ways to detect cancer in earlier stages, to educating the public about this disease.

On June 4th and 5th our local community has the opportunity to support the work of the ACS in this fight as well as honoring those who have fought the battle and won or who are currently fighting the battle, as well as remembering those who have lost the fight.  From 6:00 pm Friday night until 6:00 am Saturday night the local Brown County Relay For Life will be held at Gordon Wood Stadium.

Last year’s event raised over $100,000.  We hope to top that this year.  An event of this size and scope takes months of planning and coordination.  The local planning committee has just started meeting and would love to have anyone interested in helping at the next meeting on Tuesday February 9th.  The meeting will be held at noon in the Brownwood Regional Medical Center meeting room on the 2nd floor of the outpatient wing.  There are many fun and rewarding ways to help with this event.

For more information please contact Margaret Carter at 325-642-1309.  This year’s Relay theme is “A World Without Cancer Is a World With More Birthdays”.  We hope you will be part of the celebration.
