Broussard Receives Gold Star Student Award

BroussardGoldStarAward2013Early High School Junior Luke Broussard received a Gold Star Student Award at the Abilene Reporter News Star Award Banquet held at Abilene Christian University Monday night, May 20th.

Luke Broussard, a Junior in Early High School, was presented with a Gold Star Student Award during the Abilene Reporter News Star Award Banquet held at Abilene Christian University, Monday, May 20th. Forty-five high school juniors were presented with either the Gold, Silver or Bronze Award, from 130 nominations submitted for consideration in the News circulation area.  A special committee awarded points based on their academic achievement, school activities, volunteer work and family situations.  Fifteen students were selected for each of the three categories, Gold, Silver and Bronze.

This is the second year that the awards have been presented.  Those receiving the Gold Award, were also presented with a $3,000 scholarship to Abilene Christian University if they attend the University.  Silver Student Award winners were presented with a $2,000 scholarship, and Bronze Student Award winners were presented with a $1,000 scholarship.

Broussard is a member of the Early High School Band, Jazz Band, varsity tennis, and has just been elected as Student Body President.  He is active in Key Club International and is currently serving as Governor of the Texas/Oklahoma District of Key Club International, which is made up of over 300 high school Key Clubs and 16,000 students in Texas and Oklahoma.

He volunteered over 750 hours of service to the Martin and Frances Lehnis Railroad Museum, is a member of the National Model Railroad Association, Pecan Valley Genealogical Society, Brown County Historical Society and the Brown County Historical Commission.
