Suzanne Fry Blount, age 77, was brought home by our Heavenly Father on July 3, 2022. She is joyfully reunited with her husband of almost sixty years, Louie Neil Blount, who preceded her journey on January 24, 2021.

Born on July 30, 1944, in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley to Henry Lewis Fry and Jessie Lee (Fulcher) Fry, Suzanne grew up as the daughter of a cotton farmer in the small town of Elsa. With two sisters and two brothers (all of whom got into more trouble than the angelic Suzie…according to the stories), life was busy and fun.

Suzanne met the love of her life in 1962 when she was introduced to a lanky sailor who was wrapping up his time in the US Navy. Suzie and Louie were married at her home in Elsa, Texas on September 8th of that same year. Together, they embarked on an almost six-decade journey that had far more ups than downs and blessings beyond measure.

Suzanne graduated from Pan American University and became an elementary school teacher for a short while. This was but a prelude to her true calling—caring for others. On the home front, Suzie and Louie were eventually joined by their children Jessica Lee (Blount) Bailey and Derek Needham Blount. When it comes to the History of Amazing Moms, few have ever matched Suzanne Blount in this capacity, and Jessica and Derek count themselves blessed and blessed again for it.

With two toddlers in tow, Suzie and Louie arrived in Brownwood, Texas in 1974 to start a communications business focused on two-way radios, pagers and the like. From the trunk of an old car, they grew this venture into a wonderful success. Suzanne was now able to care not only for her children, but for the many employees and customers of the business. For years and years, hers was the first sweet voice you heard when dialing Texas Communications.

Suzanne and Louie were members of Austin Avenue Church of Christ, and many in the congregation experienced the loving and giving nature that was uniquely personified in Suzie. Whether it was visiting the sick in the hospital, volunteering in the children’s ministry, preparing and serving meals for church events, or her regular visits to those in the nursing home, Suzanne exemplified the example set by Christ in serving others. And she wore a perpetual smile in doing so.

The love in Suzanne’s heart would only grow when she transitioned from “Mom” to “Nanny” as she welcomed her grandchildren into the world. Her patience was boundless. Her excitement was infectious. Her love was endless. She read every story, attended every sporting event, and adopted every stray animal that was introduced by a small voice exclaiming, “you just have to keep him, he needs you!”

We all needed her. And we will all miss her.

Suzanne is survived by her children, Jessica (Darren Bailey) and Derek (Bethany), her beloved grandchildren, Mackenzie Keilers, Chase Keilers, Ashton Bailey, Bubba Bailey, Ayden Bailey, Harrison Blount and Roland Blount, her siblings Wanette (Fry) Bergman, Carolyn (Fry) Taylor (Larry Taylor), Steve Fry (Peggy) and Chet Fry (Alana), and countless friends and family whom she positively impacted in ways both large and small.

Suzanne’s family would like to recognize and express their appreciation for the staff of The Chatfield Assisted Living in Brownwood and Songbird Lodge of Brownwood for their loving care and compassion the past several months. The family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude for the above-and-beyond care by Dr. Amy Tindol. Thank you.

A Time of Remembrance will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, July 7th at Heartland Funeral Home at 303 Early Blvd in Early, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, Suzanne’s family asks that you consider making a donation in her honor to Aging Mind Foundation, a not-for-profit organization raising money to fund scientific research that seeks the cause of Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. Suzanne’s son, Derek, serves on the Board of Directors. Learn more at agingmindfoundation.org.

Condolences, memories and tributes can be offered to the Blount family online at heartlandfuneralhome.net.
