The Brownwood High School Varsity Women and A cappella Choir groups performed at Southwest High School Wednesday, April 22nd.  Varsity Women received straight 1’s on stage and a 2 in sight-reading and A cappella received a Sweepstakes with straight 1’s on stage and in sight-reading.

“The way that the contest works is that the students perform three pieces, two of which are on a prescribed music list, and then sight-read a piece they have never seen before,” explained BHS Choir Director, Patricia Garrett. “They are then graded on their performance. A ‘1’ is the highest score we can receive.”

“This year we’ve seen a really wonderful team effort from the students,” added Garrett who also acknowledged the work and support of other individuals who worked with the choirs this year.  “Cindy Franklin, who was the substitute teacher while I was on maternity leave, James Ervin, our accompanist, Amber Chapleau, the middle school choir teacher, Dr. Greg Church, Dr. Monte Garrett and myself have witnessed these students work so hard to prepare for the day, and they performed beautifully.”
