Tuesday around 12:00 noon, emergency dispatchers received a call regarding a man who was thought to be armed with a gun and was said to be “threatening children” at Northwest Elementary in Brownwood.  What was thought could turn into a terribly tragic event was found to be a domestic dispute.

According to police reports, City Marshall Dean Kilburn arrived at the scene prior to responding officers and was able to speak with Stacy Smith, the principal of the school.   Smith stated that she never observed the subject with a gun and he was not causing a scene.   Police questioned the man who made the call and found that a gun was not positively identified and that the caller thought the man might have had a gun.

The man named in the 911 call stated that he had come to the school because his ex-wife had attempted to remove their kids from school, which he did not agree to.  He had come to the school to prevent this from happening.  He also stated he did not even own a gun.

The caller and the subject’s ex-wife have contacted police in the past about the subject being involved in criminal activity; each incident has been consistently proven false, according to police reports.  A custody dispute reportedly seemed to be the reason for entire incident.

No arrests were made and fortunately no one was injured, ending the situation that had been thought to be the beginning of a possibly tragic event.
