Trevor Reed is Free

Yesterday was one of the most rewarding and meaningful days of my time in Congress thus far, as we welcomed Trevor Reed home. Trevor is a Texan and U.S. Marine Veteran who was held in a Russian prison as a political pawn for 985 days.

It was an honor to witness him take his first steps on free American soil alongside his family after almost three years of unlawful incarceration.

Trevor’s parents, Paula and Joey Reed of Granbury, Texas have been living a two-and-a-half-year nightmare while fighting for their son’s release. They have been tireless advocates for their son, and now all of our prayers have been answered.

When I came into office in January of 2021, I made it my mission to make sure that all 435 of my colleagues, both Republican and Democrat, knew who Trevor Reed is. I wanted them to know his name and how much he matters. He is a patriot, Texan, Marine, Boy Scout, and the son of Paula and Joey. Most importantly he is an American—and he loves this country.

Together with my colleagues in Congress, and the tireless work of Paula and Joey, we repeatedly raised Trevor’s case to the Administration—eventually getting the attention of the Secretary of State and President Biden himself.

Special thanks to my colleagues in Congress for working in a bipartisan manner to pass our resolution calling for Trevor’s release, and for continuing to draw attention to his case—including my predecessor Congressman Mike Conaway, Congressman Michael McCaul, Senator John Cornyn, Leader Kevin McCarthy, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Congressman Joaquin Castro, Congressman Colin Allred, and so many more.

I also want to especially recognize Ambassador Sullivan and his team, as well as those at the NSA, NSC, SPEHA, and President Biden for their compassion and care in bringing Trevor home.

I am so proud that so many in our government put patriotism over politics in our work to bring Trevor home. This is what our country needs more of.

Trevor Reed’s homecoming was the moment we have all been praying for, and it was a privilege to stand on the tarmac alongside his family. I will continue to raise awareness to other Americans, like Paul Whelan, who are being unlawfully held abroad. We must not leave any American behind.

Please continue to pray for Trevor and his family as they begin this new chapter of their lives together. God bless this great country!

The Permian Basin – leading in Energy Dominance

Our nation is blessed with an abundance of natural resources and a strong innovative spirit that encapsulates the American character. Nowhere is that more evident than here in the Permian Basin: where we lead the nation in secure, affordable, reliable, and clean energy production.

I am thankful to Latshaw Drilling for taking me up on their rig last week to see first hand the good work they are doing to keep our country energy dominant. Watch the video of our rig tour here. I look forward to coming back soon.
