George Whitaker

George Whitaker, age 84, of Coleman, died Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Coleman County Medical Center.

The family will host a visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2022, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. Family and friends are invited to a graveside funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2022, at the Glen Cove Cemetery with Rev. Marvin Hale officiating. Interment will follow in the Glen Cove Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

He was born George Glover Whitaker on September 25, 1937, in Clay County, Georgia to James Whitaker and Effie Ellis Whitaker. George grew up in Alabama where he attended school. He grew up in the Baptist Church where he sang bass in the church choir. He served in the United States Navy for two years. After receiving an honorable discharge, George attended aviation school at Ozark Aviation. He was an aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam War. George then became a truck driver, driving all over the United States until he retired. He moved to Coleman from Alabama in 1991. He married Martha Eldred on July 17, 1993, in Coleman. George enjoyed fishing, working in his shop, and loved his dogs.

Preceding George in death are his parents, James and Effie Whitaker; his son, Greg Percivel; and his sisters, Pauline Morrison, Gussie Smith, and Frances Locke.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Whitaker of Coleman; his children, Jeffery Percivel of Alabama, Wayne Felty and wife Dalana of Coleman, and Melissa Felty of Coleman; his grandchildren, Dylan Percivel, Mallory Brooks, Courtney Bates, and Ean Bates; his great-grandchildren, Zailey Barnett, Madeline Brooks, and Coulter Brooks; one sister, Mary Lisenby of Dothan, Alabama.

Memorials are suggested in memory of George to Coleman County Together, P.O. Box 230, Coleman, Texas 76834.

Pallbearers will be Michael Hubuck, Jackie Eldred, Chris Brooks, George Eldred, Michael Eldred, and Travis Donica.
