Jeannine Ballew Childers

Jeannine Marie (Ballew) Childers, 89, of Rising Star, passed away Friday, March 11, 2022. A visitation with family is planned at Heartland Funeral Home, Friday, March 18, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 19, 2022 in the First Baptist Church, 306 N Main St, Rising Star, TX 76471 with interment to follow in the Rising Star Cemetery, officiated by Terry Simmons.

Jeannine was born June 9, 1932 in Rising Star, Texas to Charles and Ruby Ballew. She graduated from Rising Star High School and went to Texas Tech in Lubbock where she received a master’s degree in Elementary Education. Jeannine married Victor Almo Childers on August 5, 1950 in the Methodist Church in Rising Star and they began a life together that blessed them with 2 sons. Jeannine and Victor had met at Texas Tech and after graduation worked with the soil & Conservation service, living in West Texas and farming. They had their first child, Mike, and moved to Cisco, Texas where Jeannine began teaching elementary while Victor taught and became a school administrator. While in Cisco, Charles was born, followed by a move to Rising Star, where each taught for many years. Jeannine loved to teach and devoted her life to her family, the community and the school. Jeannine was an athlete in high school, remained physically active and enjoyed travelling, genealogy and her family. She was a member of both the Baptist Church and the Church of Christ in Rising Star.

Jeannine is survived by her sons, Victor Michael “Mike” Childers and Charles Shannon Childers and wife Myrtle Grace of Rising Star, Texas; grandsons, Benjamin Harrison Childers and wife Teisha, Zachariah Almo Childers, Mitchell Anthony Childers all of Rising Star, Jonathan Lee Payne and wife, Melissa of Loma Linda, California, and Robert Andrew Childers of Richfield, MN; granddaughters, Misty Katherine Bush, Tiffany Doralene Bustamante & husband Heric and Brittany Gracie Bush of Rising Star; 6 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Jeannine was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Almo Childers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hendrick Hospice of Abilene https://www.hendrickhealth.org/services/hospice-care/light-up-a-life/
