Brownwood Art Association (BAA), a non-profit organization that promotes artistic expression, is extending its media horizon to include fiber and textile arts.

An organizational meeting is scheduled Tuesday, March 8, 6 pm, at the Art Center, 215 Fisk Ave., in Downtown Brownwood. Anyone interested in fiber and textile arts is invited.

The new group will include traditional fiber arts such as embroidery, weaving, and macramé, but organizers emphasize that artistic expression is open to a wide range of media.

“Fiber and textiles are among the oldest artistic expressions known,” according to organizer Mary Engle. “Our objective with this new group is to bring these ancient and traditional arts into a contemporary environment where they can inspire and grow in relation to our modern contemporary world.”

Engle said the new group, as part of the BAA, will enjoy all the benefits of a long-standing non-profit community organization, while keeping the focus on creativity and inspiration.

“There are many textile artists in our community,” Engle said. “Our goal is to bring them together and provide a forum that inspires and encourages others to try their artistic hand at textiles.”

The only requirement for membership in the BAA Fiber and Textiles Arts group is membership in the art association. For further information, call or text Engle 325-203-2370, or visit www.brownwoodart.org.
