May High School submitted the following information:

This school year, May HS students are trying something new: UIL Film! Alongside sponsor Mrs. Mitchell, the production team is led by Brian Kunkel (senior), Jillianne Henderson (sophomore), and Johnna Maultsby (sophomore), with Brian being the primary director/writer/editor for the project. Other students involved in the competition are Brayden Ireland, Kamryn McGinn, Haydon Shipman, Danica Shuey, JJ Jones, Kaylie Landes, Cade Lindley, Kylie Waddle, and Sydnee Anderson.

Their film, Deathless, is competing against all other 1-4A schools in the state. They have currently advanced to the semi-finals, which means their film was ranked within the top 15! Deathless has also been nominated for the Nobelity Project Social Impact award. Tiger Films is the only 1A school with a narrative to advance past Round One.

The state competition will be held on February 23rd in Austin. They will find out if they advance to state within the next week or so!

A synopsis of Deathless follows:

The world is in disarray after American scientists create an immortality shot during the Cold War. Their solution is simple: mass genocide of anyone who is not from the United States using nuclear warfare. The only source of order comes from the immortal group that received the shot, the Deathless. The new authority formed by the Deathless designed a test and divided it into four stages. After each stage, seventy-five percent of the students in each batch are executed. After stage four, only the top students become Deathless. The story follows Brian, a young man obsessed with passing the test to earn a future and become one of the elite, Kimber, a caring individual who wants nothing more than to help those around her, and Jill, Kimber’s struggling friend who has all but convinced herself of her upcoming demise. Only two from their batch will become Deathless, but will Kimber’s help be enough to help Jill survive?
