A vehicle crash early Wednesday morning took the life of a Hewitt, Texas woman in Comanche County.

The accident was 2.6 miles southeast of Comanche on State Highway 36 and happened at 5:40 am on January 19,  2022.

According to the DPS Preliminary Report, a 2008 Ford Edge was traveling toward the West on Highway 36 when it drifted to the right, off the roadway, striking a culvert which caused the vehicle to go airborne and overturn several times when striking the ground. The crash is under investigation.

Pronounced dead at the scene was the passenger in the vehicle, Linda G. Malone, 48, of Hewitt.

Transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth with serious/incapacitating injuries was the driver of the vehicle, Herman J. Slaughter, 51, of Waco.
