On Monday, 4:20pm, Brownwood Police were called about an internal theft a business in the 1000 block of Coggin.  A corporate video technician had called the store manager to report that an employee had been seen on video surveillance letting people leave the store without paying for merchandise.

Items taken in three separate orders were: a 6-pack of beer, a 1 liter Dr. Pepper, a large fountain drink, a Red Bull and two orders of cooked food.  When store managers confronted the clerk, she denied having stolen anything.  Company time sheets confirmed the clerk working during the time of the alleged theft on the video surveillance.  No arrest was made, however an internal investigation is still pending.

In a separate report, on Tuesday at 9:40pm, management at a restaurant in the 300 block of W. Commerce called police to report that a shift leader had allegedly held money out of several deposits. An internal investigation showed the employee had kept a total of $420 from deposits.

Management had confronted the employee and it was agreed that the man would sign over his payroll check, which was $421 to replace the stolen money.  He instead came into the restaurant, picked up his check and left.  Management then reported the crime to Brownwood Police.

Officers went to the employee’s home, informed the suspect of what the store manager had told them regarding the missing money and the need for the man to come and sign over his check.  The suspect agreed to have his father drive him to the restaurant to give the check to management.  Police followed him back to the restaurant, where he was given $1.63 change and issued, along with his wife, a Trespass Warning for this property.  No further actions were taken
