Helen Lorena Barrett, age 75, of Brownwood passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 with her family by her side. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 9th at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early.

Helen was born on Tuesday, November 5, 1946 in Fort Worth, TX to Oscar Montgomery and Maudie Ellen Withers. She attended school in Fredricksburg, TX until the 8th grade. Helen married C. F. Barrett Jr and together they loved and raised a daughter. Helen loved fishing, gardening, music, playing pool and bowling. Her greatest passion was cooking, and feeding people she loved. Helen won many trophies from all of the Chili & Brisket cook-offs that she entered. She had the biggest heart around, and would help anyone in need. Helen loved her family and loved her friends like they were family. She could always put a smile on anyone’s face, and never met a stranger. She was very opinionated, so if you asked her advice you knew to prepare yourself, because she would be honest and never sugar coat anything. Helen was the life of any party and there was never a dull moment. Helen loved God, and prayed to him all the time.

Helen survived by her daughter, Tina Cunningham and husband Monty of Brownwood along with her only grandson Matthew; brother Ronald “Munchie” Montgomery of Brownwood; sisters, Virginia Maynard and husband David of Watson, Dorothy Medlock of Florence, Shirley Smith and partner Barry of Bangs; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband C. F. Barrett Jr.; parents Oscar Montgomery and Maudie Ellen Withers; sister Marie Kirchner and husband Jerry; brother Donald Montgomery; brother-in-law Lee Medlock.

Online condolences, memories and tributes can be made to the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net.
