Family Services Center received the gift of a $3000 grant on Tuesday from the Amerigroup Foundation.

According to Amerigroup Vice President of Marketing Brandi Johnson, the gift is a community grant for 501(c)3 corporations, which may be used for whatever the recipient determines will help their organization.

Johnson stated that Amerigroup is a Medicaid managed care solution provider, helping people through the Medicaid process with help coordinating their specialty care.

“Medicaid patients have a few choices in health plans and Amerigroup is one of these. Patients go to their family doctor and then Amerigroup helps them to coordinate their care with specialists,” explained Johnson.

Amerigroup is based out of Virginia Beach, Virginia and has clients in many states, including Texas. Through the company, the Amerigroup Foundation helps to give back to the community.

“We have a grassroots type of approach. We want to find interesting groups that are really doing good and making an impact in their community,” said Johnson explaining how the foundation selects it’s grant recipients. “That is just what Family Services Center is doing. We asked ourselves how can we use this money in West Texas and this group just came to mind.”

“This is a wonderful and unusual gift,” stated Family Services Center Executive Director Doak Givan who explained that most grants have stipulations on what can be purchased or how funds can be used. He went on to explain that the timing of the gift was perfect too, in that it can be counted in matching grant to double the funds. The gift of Amerigroup’s $3000 will actually mean $6000 to the Family Services Center.

Family Services Center provides many services to the community through professional counseling, education, advocacy, supportive services and collaboration to strengthen individuals, children, and families, as stated in their own mission statement.
