GATESVILLE – Coming off a three-set home loss to reigning district champion Stephenville in Friday’s 6-4A opener, the Brownwood Lady Lions rebounded with a four-set set at TGCA Class 4A No. 11 Gatesville, 18-25, 25-18, 25-12, 27-25, Tuesday night.

“The girls didn’t show up the first set but it was the best comeback I’ve seen from them,” said Lady Lions third-year head coach Allison Smith. “It shows their resiliency and finally we got to see the fight we’ve been desperately missing. I’m proud of them and we are one step closer to our overall goal.”

The Lady Lions (17-7, 1-1) – ranked No. 18 by the TGCA last week – were led by Kylie Morris’ eight kills, seven from Gracie Boswell, six from Olivia Fowler, five from Jaylen Savage, three from Tessa Goodwin and two from Jordan Northcutt against Gatesville (19-6, 1-1).

Kylie Wooten dished out 14 assists, Goodwin chipped in eight, Fowler tacked on a pair and Kassidy Wooten was credited with one.

Ashlyn Harris served a team-high seven aces trailed by Goodwin and Kassidy Wooten with four each, Kylie Wooten with two and Boswell with one.

Defensively, Kassidy Wooten collected 16 digs followed by Fowler with 12, Goodwin with 10, Boswell with six, Morris with four, Harris with three, and Savage and Kylie Wooten with one apiece.

At the net, Savage recorded five blocks, Northcutt added three, Fowler and Morris finished with two apiece and Goodwin logged one.

Brownwood will host Lampasas at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
