Penny Eugenia Lawson, age 49, of Brownwood passed away during the early hours of Monday, September 20, 2021, at a local nursing facility.

Penny was born on May 3rd, 1972, to William and Linda (Simpson) Philen in Brownwood.

Penny was always a fun character to be around; quickly and easily becoming friends with anyone she met. She was a natural caregiver, whether it be to her parents, children, dogs, or many friends. A woman who had little to give, she would always offer her assistance to anyone who offered her kindness and good faith. She loved her children, grandchild, and pets more than life itself. Although life sometimes would not work out as planned, she always had a good sense of humor and made the best out of her situation. Her family and friends take comfort in the fact that she is no longer in pain. She was a kind and lovable woman who will surely be missed every single day.

Penny is survived in death by her parents, William and Linda Philen of Brownwood; two children, Haley Lawson of Baytown, and Josh Lawson of Brownwood; one granddaughter, Wrenley Voortmans of Baytown; one brother, Randy Philen of Brownwood; and several of her close friends.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Greg Philen and Ronnie Philen.

As Penny’s wishes were to be cremated, there will not be any public services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Corinne T. Smith Animal Center (3016 Milam Dr. Brownwood, Texas 76801) to honor Penny’s memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood. Online condolences for the family are welcome at www.blaylockfuneralhome.com.
