Tire failure caused a crash that sent two Brownwood residents and two from Amarillo to the hospital Sunday. The wreck happened at 11:07 a.m. on U.S. 277 approximately 10 miles south of San Angelo, the Department of Public Safety said.

A pickup truck traveling north went out of control when its left front tire blew out, the DPS said, sending it into oncoming traffic, where it struck a pickup truck towing a boat on a trailer. The force of the crash knocked the cab off the northbound vehicle, sending it into the ditch on the west side of the road, where it rolled several times. The remaining part of the truck spun several times, stopping upright on the shoulder of the highway, the release said.

The crash separated the boat trailer from the other vehicle, sending the boat into a fence. The pickup pulling the boat rolled three times, coming to rest upside down.

Each vehicle had two occupants, and all four men had to be extracted by fire personnel. All were wearing seat belts, the DPS said.

The injured men were Geronimo Garcia Elizondo, 28, of Brownwood, who was driving the northbound pickup truck; his passenger, Marc Shawn Walden, 30, of Brownwood; Dauren Paul Mooneyham, 42, of Amarillo, who was driving the pickup towing the boat; and his passenger, William Terril Bivens, 20, of Amarillo.

All four were taken to Shannon Medical Center according to Texas DPS,

Walden was transported by AirMed 1 to Shannon and later taken by air to Parkland Medical Center in Dallas.

No reports were available on the condition of any of the men.
