The Brown County Water Improvement District #1 (BCWID) dedicated the Lake Patrol building located near the dam at Lake Brownwood to retired Senior Lake Patrolman Jim Whiteley on Monday.

Whiteley served 27 years with the Lake Patrol and retired in 2008.  BCWID General Manager Dennis Spinks said that Whiteley was instrumental in completing several projects at Lake Brownwood, including the construction of the Lake Patrol headquarters in 1984 which was dedicated in his honor.

“Jim headed up several projects at the lake,” Spinks said. “If you were on the lake before 2008, you probably ran across Jim.”

In addition to completing several lake projects, Whiteley was also looking out for safety at Lake Brownwood during his time in the Lake Patrol.  Spinks said that Whiteley saved a number of lives on the lake while he was with the force.

Whiteley said that it was an honor for him to be recognized and he misses seeing his coworkers every day since his retirement.

“This really does mean a lot to me, and I really do miss working for the district,” Whiteley said.  “It is probably the greatest thing I have ever done; I enjoyed my work, so to me this is a great honor.”

Current Senior Lake Patrolman Troy Henderson along with board members of the BCWID held a ceremony and unveiled the plaque dedicating the building in Whiteley’s name on Monday.

Whiteley’s friends and family along with representatives from several other law enforcement agencies were present for the event on Monday.
