Baked Artisan Goods, which is owned and operated by Rebecca Morelock, shared the following information on its Facebook page Wednesday morning:

I’m opening a bakery! That’s right, a real brick and mortar, come in, sit down with a pastry and a coffee, bakery! Pinch me, because this has been a long time coming and it doesn’t feel real

A little back story…

First, I’m horrible at announcements. I have been very hesitant to post this, because as many of you know, this is not my first try at opening a bakery. It has been many years now that I have wanted to. I almost put it into my friends beautiful soap shop, only to find out that the soap scent would alter my doughs. It almost went into the brewery, but then I got pregnant. I nearly had a store front at 10 Mile, but then this opportunity presented itself!

I present to you Lee Street, as our family has fondly called it for 14 years. (My bakery will not be called Lee Street, just to clarify that , it’s still Baked Artisan Goods.)

Lee Street is my in-laws’ first downtown rental property. 14 years ago they purchased the building which is across from the main Texas Bank branch on the corner of Fisk & Lee Street. They rented out the front (Security Finance) and remodeled the back into what I believe is the coolest downtown “loft” apartment in Brownwood. 15’ ceilings, concrete floors, exposed brick walls, unique alley entrance. It was a dry cleaners in the early 1900s, so half of the apartment is actually a vault (the entire space behind me in the picture). It still has the vault door! The really cool thing about this apartment is that 14 years ago, it became mine and my husbands first home. This is where we began our lives together, with my 1 1/2 year old daughter. This building has come full circle back to us. We are now purchasing it and bringing my dream to reality. Like I said, pinch me, because it doesn’t feel real!

I don’t have an estimated opening date, so please don’t ask. I will, however, be taking y’all along on the journey of creating it into the coolest bakery Brownwood has ever seen! So, watch in my stories, as I want y’all to enjoy this as much as I am.

Baked Artisan Goods thus far has been an in-home micro-bakery operating under the Texas Cottage laws and strives to provide the community with high quality, hand crafted baked artisan goods.
