BeansAndRiceChallenge2012Brownwood and Llano High School students are pairing up in a friendly competition to raise staple foods for their towns’ local food banks, and businesses are invited to join in the fun.

In light of the competition and showing support for local families in need, Maria Escobedo, the owner of Taquito Millionario and grandmother of BHS junior Paige Adame, has donated 50 lbs of beans to the competition. Brownwood High School is challenging local restaurants and businesses to support the effort as well and help BHS beat Llano, not only in football but in the fight against hunger.

The two week competition, lovingly called “Beans vs. Rice,” is currently underway.  Each school is collecting food through next Friday’s game when food items raised will be split between the two communities.  Brownwood is collecting beans of all varieties and will donate food items raised to the Good Samaritan Ministries.  Llano is collecting rice and will donate proceeds to the Llano Food Pantry.

Donations may be dropped off at the front office of Brownwood High School.  The BHS Student Council thanks participants for their support of the council and for supporting Good Samaritan Ministries food bank with an important staple.

The Brownwood vs. Llano football game will take place at 7:30pm on Friday, November 9th at Gordon Wood Stadium.  It is the last game of the regular season, so mark your calendars, buy some beans to donate and then come to the game to cheer the Brownwood Lions on to a victory against Llano.
