On Wednesday, the Followwell Property Group presented a $2,560 donation to the Heart of Texas Christian Women’s Job Corps, with the funds generated from a recent cornhole tournament in downtown Brownwood.

“Our company, the Followwell Property Group, we try to host at a minimum of one non-profit fundraiser a year,” Marc Followwell said. “This year we contacted the chamber of commerce and asked what non-profit could use what we’re trying to do and they turned us on to the Christian Women’s Job Corps. Due to COVID they couldn’t have their typical fundraising events so we tried to step in and had a benefit cornhole tournament where we could raise money and donate 100 percent of the proceeds.”

Sponsors for the cornhole tournament included TexasBank, The Hallasan Group CrossCountry Mortgage, Brown County Abstract Company, Willie’s T’s, KOXE, Morgan Inspection Services, Stalworth Cen-Tex Solutions, Forbess Insurance Agency, Tunnell Construction, Roofing and Water Restoration, Brownwood Nutrition, and Bilbrey Real Estate Group.

“It wasn’t just us, the sponsors were a huge part of this and made it possible,” Followwell said. “They were able to pay for all for the food, marketing, and prize money we were able to give out. All that made it possible so that whenever a player came and signed up for the tournament, their $25 entry fee, 100 percent of that went to the non-profit.”

More than 90 competitors took part in the tournament, according to Followwell.

“We had 90 something players and the total came out to around $2,300 we were able to donate, but a big thank you to Earl Bilbrey and Justin Jacobson who were the winners of our social/backyard bracket,” Followwell said. “They actually donated an additional $250 of their prize money back to the non-profit.”

The Heart of Texas Christian Women’s Job Corps seeks to equip women, in a Christian environment, for life and employment. Heart of Texas Christian Women’s Job Corps, located in Brownwood, helps women each year gain self-confidence, purpose, direction and hope for their future by offering life skills, job skills, mentoring and Bible study. Class sessions are offered each spring and fall.
