LAMPASAS – The Brownwood Lady Lions erased a two-run deficit and took a late lead, but were unable to hold on as the Lampasas Lady Badgers rallied for a 5-4 victory Tuesday in District 6-4A softball action, sweeping the season series.

“It was just an up and down game both offensively and defensively, that’s the best way I could put it,” said Lady Lions head coach Jessica Lynn. “One inning would be really good and the next inning wouldn’t be quite as good.”

Knotted at 4 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Autumn Beisel-Macomber reached on one of just two Brownwood errors to start the frame. Kali Hunter followed by beating out a bunt down the third base line for the single, which set the stage for Alycia Cantu’s one-out RBI single that plated Beisel-Macomber with the winning run.

The Lady Lions broke a 3-all tie with a run in the top of the fifth as Mia Lopez was hit by a pitch and Cecilia Rodriguez reached on an error prior to Chelsey Covey’s go-ahead RBI single to right field.

Trailing 3-1 in the fourth inning, the Lady Lions drew even with a pair of runs. Annie-Klein Allgood walked and Rodriguez and Covey followed with singles to load the bases ahead of an RBI base hit by Hailey Snell. Mackenzie Welch then drew an RBI bases-loaded to even the score at 3, but with the sacks still full and no outs Brownwood was unable to push across another run.

The Lady Lions grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Auzzlyn Benedict walked and scored on an error, but Lampasas drew even in the bottom of the frame on back-to-back two-out base hits by Aspen Wheeler and Cantu.

Lampasas grabbed a 3-1 advantage in the third as a sacrifice fly from Wheeler and a single by Cantu drove in runs.

The Lady Badgers later drew even at 4 in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Kayli Syx.

In the circle, Allgood allowed two earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts, three walks and five base runners stranded.

Despite the loss, the Lady Lions (6-13-1, 2-4) can still secure their 17^th straight trip to the playoffs with a win over Gatesville (6-17, 1-4) in Friday’s 6:30 p.m. home finale. A loss, and the Lady Hornets would jump Brownwood for fourth place in the 6-4A standings.

Lampasas (12-11, 3-3) now sits in sole possession of second place with its victory.

In other 6-4A softball action Tuesday, Glen Rose (18-3, 6-0) clinched the district title outright with a 11-1 triumph over Stephenville (9-13, 2-3).
