Lion golfers Reagan, Jones advance to regional tournament

GATESVILLE – The Brownwood Lions placed third as a team at the 36-hole District 6-4A golf tournament, which concluded here Monday, but two members of the squad – freshmen Hudson Reagan and Sir Bubba Jones – qualified for regionals as medalists.

The first- and second-place teams, as well as the first- and second-place golfers not on a qualifying team, advance to the Region I-4A tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock April 21-22.

After opening with rounds with of 80 in Glen Rose last week, Reagan fired a 73 to finish with a 153 total and Jones carded an 82 to post a 162 composite score to move on as the individuals not part of a qualifying team.

The Lions followed up their 328 team score at Glen Rose last week with a 329 Monday for a 657 total. Gatesville won the District 6-4A crown with a 635 followed by runner-up Stephenville with a 643.

The rest of the Brownwood scores included John Monson with a 167 after rounds of 85 and 82; Slayde Espinoza with a 182 after a 90 and a 92; and Ian Harris with a 184 after opening with an 83 and closing with a 101.
