Jackets finish second at Concordia golf tournament, break school record

The Howard Payne University men’s golf team broke the school record for team score in round one of the Linda Lowery Invitational hosted by Concordia University Texas.

Howard Payne shot a school record low of 286 in round one of the tournament besting the previous record of 287 set in 2018-2019 at the ERAU Spring Invitational. A 299 in round two of the tournament for Howard Payne secured second place overall for the Yellow Jackets.

Howard Payne as a team led the tournament in Par 4 scoring (4.12) and Par 5 scoring (4.75) as well as in total Birdies with 31. The Yellow Jackets were also second in Pars with 126 over the two rounds.

Lucas Kinkade led the Jackets with a 145 (74-71) to finish T-5th overall. Kinkade led the tournament in Pars with 27.

Jake Angerstein was T-7th overall with a 146 (70-76), he was second overall in Par 4 scoring (3.89) and in Par 5 scoring (4.63), and recorded one Eagle.

Kyle Anderson recorded a 147 (74-73) to finish T-9th overall. He led the tournament in Par 5 scoring (4.38) and was 3rd in Birdies with eight.

Kaleb Brown finished T-11th overall with a 148 (69-79), was third in Par 4 scoring (3.94) and recorded one Eagle.

Harrison Hopson was T-24th overall with a 152 (73-79), Brady Nelson was 30th with a 155 (76-79), Evan Joseph was 35th with a 159 (82-77), and Chase Day was 40th with a 165 (82-83).

The Jackets will compete next on April 12 -13 at the Berry Creek Country Club, a tournament hosted by Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
