TexasParksandwildlifelogoThe Lake Brownwood State Park will be hosting a lake shore cleanup day on Saturday, September 29th.

Park officials said on Thursday that with Lake Brownwood being 12.8 feet below spillway level, years of trash and debris have become visible and need to be cleaned up.  Officials are seeking volunteers on the cleanup day to help make the lake safe and a more beautiful environment.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the Lake Brownwood State Park boat ramp at 9am on Saturday, September 29th for a brief program and instructions.  Volunteers are asked to bring sturdy boots or shoes and gloves.

This cleanup day is being held in conjunction with National Public Lands Day which is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer event for public lands.  It is held annually.  NPLD is also a “fee-free day,” meaning entrance fees are waived for volunteers.

More than 170,000 volunteers are expected at more than 2,100 sites across the country on Saturday, September 29 to take part in the largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands in the United States, National Public Lands Day (NPLD).

Volunteers in every state will visit parks, public and community gardens, beaches, wildlife preserves or forests and chip in to help these treasured places that belong to all Americans. They will improve and restore the lands and facilities the public uses for recreation, education, exercise and connecting with nature.
