After a year hiatus due to COVID-19, the Brown County Rodeo will make its triumphant return Thursday, June 3 through Saturday, June 5.

Brent Moseley, Sheila Senkirik and Bryan Senkirik of the Brown County Rodeo Association stopped by KOXE Monday morning to share details about what’s returning and what will be new at this year’s rodeo.

The most notable addition this year will be a carnival, which will run Monday, May 31 through Saturday, June 5 at the Brown County Fairgrounds.

“We always know that the rodeo is the main event but we wanted to bring some other attractions to the rodeo to bring the community out,” Bryan Senkirik said.

“To my knowledge we’ve never had a carnival,” Moseley said. “It’s been talked about several times but we never pulled the trigger. We did this year and we think it will be a great deal.”

Returning for the third year will be the Brown County Rodeo Market and Trade Days, which will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 4 and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 5 inside the home economics building.

“We’re hoping this year to have something to draw everyone in and make this a community event,” Sheila Senkirik said. “We’re looking for vendors to come in, several we’ve already talked to and signed. This is a great opportunity for vendors to get their names out there, especially with the carnival this year.”

For those interested in setting up a booth, contact Shelia Senkirik at 325-642-0269. Additional information can be found on the Brown County Fair Association Facebook page.

As for the rodeo itself, the Sammy Andrews Rodeo Company will again provide the stock, and T.C. Long returns as the announcer.

“Sammy Andrews is a fourth generation stock contractor and in the Finals and the American they’ve had several horses and bulls out there, so they’re the top of the top,” Moseley said. “T.C. Long has been coming been here quite some time doing the announcing and he’ll be back in the middle of the arena. He’s also bringing his video board, which is even bigger and better than what we’ve had.”

‘Backflip’ Johnny Dudley, who appeared at the rodeo almost a decade ago, will return and serve as the ‘man in the can’ this year.

Cowboy Kenny Bartram will bring his motocross troop back from Oklahoma back to Brownwood to provide entertainment as well.

“They were a big hit three or four years ago when they were here and we still here the community talk about that today,” Moseley said. “They’re a good form of entertainment to put on with the rodeo itself.”

Additional information on the rodeo will be provided in the future.
