KevinBrooksThe Central Texas Training Coalition announced that Kevin Brooks will be the keynote speaker at a drug awareness and training event scheduled for August 31st in Brownwood.  Brownwood Chief of Police Mike Corley, a key member of the coalition, said that Brooks will speak on the dangers of drug abuse, most notably alcohol.

“Kevin lost a good friend and is paralyzed as a result of drinking and driving.   His story is both sad and uplifting,” Corley said.

Brooks’ presentation is set for 9am, August 31st at the Brownwood Coliseum as part of a day-long training program.  Brooks is scheduled to speak for about an hour.

“We truly believe that Kevin has a story our young people and parents need to hear.  We still plan to have as many school kids hear Kevin as we can handle,” encouraged Corley.  “We will not charge admission to hear Kevin’s story – it is free to the public.  We encourage everyone to come hear Kevin’s story.”

Corley stated that Brooks’ will relate to the students in the community and the choices they often face.  During the program, Kevin will share his story of the night that changed his life forever. Kevin left a party after consuming a large amount of alcohol and drove at excessive speeds. He had a horrific crash that changed the lives of two young men.  His childhood friend Brendan did not survive the crash, and Kevin is in a wheelchair after being paralyzed. He is living proof that one poor choice can change one’s life forever, or even end it.

Brooks’ presentation will be the start of a training seminar that will cover topics such as local drugs, networking and resources, and drug trends to name a few.  Organizers said that is a good training for those who work with kids, schools, or hospitals.

Cost for the entire seminar is $60 for the entire day.  Those attending only the one hour speech by Kevin Brooks will not be charged admission.

For registration information, contact Von Bates at 325-646-5939 or Donna Thompson at 325-641-8823.  The seminar will count at 8 CEU’s for most disciplines.

There will also be a fundraiser silent auction at 12:00 noon which features many items that the public is invited to bid on.  These items include a signed Dallas Stars hockey puck (pictured below), 4 Round Rock Express Home Run Porch tickets to a regular season game, a $20 gift card to Main Event, two hair cut certificates with Travis Curry, Main Street Car Wash certificate and signed 8×10 photos of John Michael Montgomery, Gary Allen, Eddie Money, Jack Ingram, and Kevin Fowler (to be auctioned separately).

So make plans to attend this free drug awareness event featuring Kevin Brooks this Friday at 9:00am at the coliseum.
