A home in the 1800 block of 7th Street in Brownwood, just off Avenue K, is a total loss after a fire Sunday, December 27.  Human error is the suspected cause of the fire, according to Fire Marshal Buddy Preston.

“We think it started on the front porch. There was somebody in the house, he heard something and opened the front door and the fire was on the front porch and migrated in through the front door when the kid left the door open and exited the house through the back door. He took the dog and went out the back,” Preston said.

Carelessly discarded smoking material is said to be the cause of the fire.  There were no injuries although the occupant was checked out by EMS.
