Gwen Lewis, of Coleman, Texas, passed peacefully and left this world behind on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Coleman, Texas where she had been residing.

She was born Gwen Vaughan on June 29, 1932 in Wellington to Rev. Raymond Vaughan and Vida Reeves Vaughan.  Gwen graduated from McCamey High School in 1950.  She married Dave Lewis in 1953 in McCamey.  Gwen was an excellent “stay at home” Mom and devout Christian.  She was always active in the Assembly of God Church wherever she lived.  Upon having an empty nest at home, she then began a career in real estate and was quite successful with Landmark Realtors in Lubbock.  Gwen owned and operated a retail maternity apparel store in Lubbock.  She was immensely proud to earn her accounting degree later in life, which was a goal she had always wanted to achieve.

After Gwen and Dave were married, they were transferred by Shell Pipeline Company and lived in Odessa, Midland, Hobbs, New Mexico, Nigeria Africa, and Hamlin.  After retirement, Gwen moved to Midland.  In 2015 she moved to Coleman to be close to family.

Gwen is preceded in death by her husband, Dave Lewis; her parents, Rev. Raymond and Vida Vaughan; three brothers, Kenneth Vaughan, Leonard Vaughan, and Ted Vaughan.

She is survived by two children, Mike Lewis and wife Diana of Blooming Grove, Cyndi McClain and husband Bill of Coleman; one brother, Ben Vaughan and wife Judy of Plano; four grandchildren, Brandon McClain of Midland, Brook McClain Townsend of Midland, Bonnie Rhoades of Hillsboro, Matt Lewis of Fort Worth; six great-grandchildren, James Michael Lewis, Annalee Lewis, Cayden McClain, Landon Richardson, Hunter Richardson, and Landree Townsend.

A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at the Fairview Cemetery in Wellington, Texas with Mike Lewis officiating.

Viewing will begin on Saturday December 12, 2020 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 1300 East Avenue, Wellington, Texas 79095.

Memorials are suggested in memory of Gwen to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org or to Coleman Home Health and Hospice, 406 W. Elm Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.
