The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Monday afternoon:

On Saturday, November 28, 2020, at approximately 11:15 p.m. officers with the Brownwood Police Department and Brownwood Fire Department responded to the 2400 block of Songbird Circle (Redstone Park) regarding a report of a suicide attempt.

Upon arrival, officers were met by nursing staff and directed to a room.  There, officers met with 79-year-old Marvin Neil Baucom and his wife.  Both subjects had sustained varying degrees of injuries caused by a knife.  Mr. Baucom was interviewed and it was learned that he caused the injuries to his wife and himself in what he stated was a suicide pact with her.

Further interviews were conducted, and evidence was gathered at the scene. Mr. Baucom was then arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and transported to the Brown County Jail.
