GLEN ROSE – Following a dramatic five-set victory over Vernon in the bi-district round of the playoffs, the Brownwood Lady Lions’ season reached its conclusion against No. 5 Decatur, 25-14, 25-6, 25-14, in area round action Monday night.

“Decatur is a great team who will go far,” said Lady Lions’ second-year head coach Allison Smith. “We put up a fight but they got us out of system and kept us there. I wish the outcome had been different but my team had a great run. We were blessed this season and when you get far enough in the postseason you’re going to see the best.”

Katelynn Windham tallied nine kills to pace the Brownwood offense followed by Tessa Goodwin with four, Olivia Fowler with three, Kylie Morris with two, and Ashlyn Storm and Gracie Boswell with one apiece.

Goodwin dished out 14 assists trailed by Windham, Kylie Wooten and Kassidy Wooten with one apiece.

Morris served three aces while Fowler contributed one.

Defensively, Caitlyn Moody registered 19 digs followed by Goodwin and Boswell with eight apiece, Fowler with seven, Morris with four, Windham and Kylie Wooten with two each and Storm, Kassidy Wooten and Becca Church with one each.

Morris and Storm finished with one block apiece.

District 7-4A champion Decatur improved to 25-1 overall while the District 6-4A runner-up Lady Lions finished the season with a 12-9 overall record.

“My seniors were leaders this entire season and pushed our entire group to work hard,” Smith said. “I’m excited for the next season but we will never have a group like this again. We meshed and for the most part everyone got along and grew close. There’s so much I could say about each individual. I hope they learned from this season more than just about a game but how this game pertains to life. The key to having an amazing game and a great life is to not get down after a mistake, just fix it the next opportunity you get, and have fun and be a little goofy. When these girls did that there was no stopping them.”
