Wilburn Travis “W.T.” Powers

Graveside funeral services for Wilburn Travis Powers, 100, of Bangs, will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, July 29, in Mud Creek Cemetery with Ken Green officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home. No set visitation is planned at this time.

Mr. Powers passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at local nursing home.

Wilburn Travis Powers was born on May 9, 1912, in Lampasas County Texas, the youngest of 11 children born to Joe Travis Powers and Julia Darcus Denton Powers. He was raised and attended school in the Lometa and Lampasas area and later, married the love of his life, Ama Mullins. On October 14, 1942, he joined the United States Army, where he served his country as a Sergeant stationed in England , France , Holland and Germany .  W.T. was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a 32nd degree mason with Brownwood Masonic Lodge #279. He had worked in the oilfield for most of his life and was a member of the Central United Methodist Church.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Sam Powers of Brownwood; daughter in law, Alyce Ruiz of Austin and two grandchildren, Ethan Powers and Sarah Powers.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ama Powers and ten brothers and sisters
