On Thursday, October 8, the SRO Golden Doughnut safety award was presented to the entire BISD Nursing Department for their continued diligence and dedication in taking care of students and keeping everyone safe.

“There are many aspects to school safety,” explained School Resource Officer, Fred Bastardo. “BISD school nurses, in addition to their regular duties of ensuring students’ immunizations are current, administering medications, and tending to injuries during school hours, are also responsible for screening students for COVID-19 symptoms, following the latest updates and advice about the virus, and helping decide whether or not a child should remain at school.”

The Golden Doughnut Safety Award is a roving award that is presented to BISD employees who have shown a commitment to school safety and security within the district.
