STEPHENVILLE – The Brownwood High tennis team secured a runner-up finish in District 6-4A with a 12-7 victory at Stephenville Thursday.

“That was a good win for us, I knew it was going to be close, but that secures second place for us,” said Brownwood tennis head coach Crystal Blazek.

Both the Lions and Lady Lions won two of three doubles match to begin the action, and followed with four singles victories apiece.

On the boys side, doubles victories belonged to No. 1 Mo Goff and Peter Le (6-4, 6-4 over Nate Barry and Eduardo Briseno) and No. 3 Victor Hernandez and River Prado (6-3, 7-6 [7-4] over Remington Back and Nathaniel Morrow).

For the girls, doubles wins were notched by No. 1 Aaliyah Uvalle and Lillian Jonescue (6-4, 6-2 over Molly Orr and Ella Sheppard) and No. 2 Victoria Ramos and Aishwarya Nigalye (6-2, 6-2 over Maci Underwood and Laura Hendrickson).

In singles action, the Lions received victories from No. 1 Goff (6-1, 6-1 over Dylan Jones), No. 2 Le (5-7, 6-3, 14-12 over Barry), No. 4 Julian Lares (6-3, 6-3 over Charlie Hughes), and No. 6 Jacob Singleton (6-0, 5-7, 10-3 over Morrow).

Triumphs for the Lady Lions in girls singles competition included No. 1 Uvalle (4-6, 7-5, 10-4 over Shyla Smith), No. 2 Jonescue (6-1, 6-4 over Orr), No. 3 Ramos (6-0, 6-1 over Hendrickson), and No. 5 Labritaney Pollard (7-5, 6-3 over Underwood).
