Brownwood News – The Early Tourism Bureau recently posted a link for a survey to help gather data for the upcoming Barbecue Cookoff event as part of the 2018 Early, Texas Showcase, formally known as Pioneer Days.

“We have had several ask us why we do Lone Star versus ICBA versus a non-Sanction on the BBQ Cook-Off,” explained Early Tourism Director Denise Hudson. “We have put together a survey to gather feedback from a larger audience on what type of cook-off and categories the cookers would like to see.”

Interested participants can complete the survey here.

Last year’s Barbecue Cookoff was sponsored by South Park Medical Plaza. Cookers from all over the state participated in the Lonestar Barbecue Society sanctioned event.

Proceeds from this year’s cookoff will benefit the Brownwood Area Jaycees.

Texas Country Artist Roger Creager was revealed as the headliner for the upcoming Early, Texas Showcase to be held September 13th-16th at the Early City Park and Baseball Fields. Performing during the concert will also be Sam Riggs.

What has been traditionally known as Early Pioneer Days since its conception in 2012 is ushering in a name change for the 2018 festival.

“Last year we had a very successful year,” Hudson said. “We decided this year we would do a name change, because Pioneer Days sounds like a horse-drawn wagon event. So we decided on the Early, Texas Showcase where we plan to showcase Early, Brownwood, Brown County.”

Additional changes this year include a Chili Cookoff, Margarita-Bloody-Mary-Hot-Sauce contest, and a church service on Sunday.

Early, Texas Showcase 2018 will still feature all the old favorites with the Ryan Construction Firework Show, carnival, the United Supermarket Food Court, craft vendors, the horseshoe/washer tournament, the Pioneer Man and Woman competition, and more.
