Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3278 and the Ladies & Mans Auxiliaries will observe the end of The War Europe, VE Day on 9 May, 6:00 PM at the VFW Post at 2300 Stephen F. Austin.

The Post will award The Victory in Europe Commenrative Medal to 1SG, Ret. Al “Preach” Horton.  Mr. Horton served in Europe 10 December 1944 though 8 March 1946. He is credited with two campaigns while Europe the Rhineland and Central Europe.

The war against Germany lasted 3 years and 5 months. Over 183,588 service members were killed in the war in Europe.
