Term Limits

Congressman Conaway was recently asked if he’d learned anything as our representative in Washington. He replied he needed to explain his votes more fully but then went on to say he didn’t expect to convince anyone he was right. In other words, he will vote the way the party bosses and special interest groups say, and if we don’t like it, too bad.

Rep. Conaway’s answer reflects much of what is wrong with Washington; congressional hubris becoming disdain for the people they are supposed to serve, and entitlement to their office. He stated without apology that he wants our votes so he can rise in the Republican Party and advance his seniority on the Agricultural Committee. After four terms he still has not learned that you advance by leading, not following, or going along to get along.

Mr. Conaway has become the poster boy for term limits, which he vehemently opposes. There may be valid arguments, pro and con, regarding mandatory term limits, but for now it is incumbent upon the voters to ensure term limits at the ballot box. Rep. Conaway has had four terms to represent his constituents of District 11, and he has failed to do so. Therefore, it is time to say enough, and apply term limits to Mr. Conaway on May 29th.
