ArtAssociationLogoOne of America’s outstanding pastel artist, Kathleen Cook, will conduct a workshop focusing on the basics of portraiture, with emphasis on getting a likeness.  The demonstrations   and teaching will emphasis the pastel medium, but students may choose to work in the medium of their choice.  The concepts will translate into other media.  Students will work with photographs and a live model.  Lighting, posing, light and shadow, color and value will be covered.  Students will be stimulated to focus on the anatomy of the head and thinking three-dimensionally.

All skill levels are welcome, but this class might be more comfortable for those who have some basic drawing and painting abilities.  Each student will work at their own skill level and reach beyond their current abilities.

Cost of the three-day workshop, which runs May 3, 4, and 5, is $240, which includes model fee.  A $50 deposit is required to hold a reservation; mail the check to Melanie Naylor at 3800 C.R. 336, Early, TX 76802.

Limited pastels and paper will be available on site for your use and purchase.

Cook has won countless professional juried competitions throughout the country, including the Pastel Artist International magazine.  She has been a member of the Pastel Society of America (New York, NY International) since 1981.  You can see Ms. Cook’s work at www.kathleencook.com.
